With great dignity and courage, Harold Edwin Tackaberry, passed from this life on July 28, 2010 at the Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Ed is greatly missed by his devoted wife Colleen, children Laurie Lipinski, Nancy Duykers (Marc), Paul Tackaberry (Sarah Giddens), Lisa Carriere (Jeff) and their mother Nina Tackaberry, and step-sons Mike (Kim) and Jason (Carla) Lewicki. Cherishing his memory are his grandchildren Benjamin, Matthew, Samantha and Alex Carriere, Andrew Duykers, David and Michael Lipinski and their father Richard Lipinski, Leah Tackaberry -Giddens -and Peyton, Adam, Noah, Nicholas and Sydney Lewicki. Ed was a Renaissance man who marched to the beat of his own drum, committed to his internal values and strongly convicted to his ideals. Ed was a rolling stone who embraced change and loved the next little project. As a creative problem- solver, Ed role modeled a desire and willingness to strive to the exceptional. One example of this is obtaining a Masters Degree in Education at age 60. Ed used his voice and presence to better the world helping many people. He clearly understood the value of giving back to his community. Ed was an excellent speaker who commanded an audience with his gift of storytelling and dry, witty humor. Even one word could be funny as said by Ed. His membership in Toastmasters International was highly valued by Ed as he felt it provided him with the speaking background to be successful in business. Ed made money management look like fine art. Ed had a strong work ethic working until the time of his death. He held many positions of responsibility throughout his life. Ed was born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba and maintained close friendships as a loyal member of the Brandonites of the 1950s. Ed has many friends to mourn his loss. He had a great ability to make new friends throughout his life. Ed was a talented musician, a lover of jazz music, and in recent years loved to play his base with his church praise group Rhythms of Grace, with the group Three Steps Ahead and the Golden Door group. In the 1960s he was a member of a dance band, The Nite Hawks. A deeply spiritual man Ed was very grateful for his association with Alcoholics Anonymous and 35 years of sobriety. Ed also highly valued his membership in Morrow Gospel Church and his small group. Ed loved to play games, competitive in spirit and relished a win. When playing crib with his father part of the ritual for the winner was to strut into the kitchen, look into the mirror located there and say Mirror, Mirror on the wall. Whos the greatest crib player of them all? Ed loved trips to the Chinese food restaurant as long as everyone adhered to his ordering rules. These favorite foods will always remind us of Ed: fried Klik, sardine sandwiches, licorice Allsorts, Hawkins Cheezies, peanuts and overdone turkey. A memorial service to celebrate Eds life will be held at Morrow Gospel Church 755 St. Annes Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba on Tuesday August 3, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers for those who wish a donation in Eds memory can be made to Quagga Kitten Kaboodle and Stray Cat Rescue 970 St. Marys Road Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2M 3R8. Ed loved all cats especially his cats Ashley, Buddy, Jersey and Abbott. Eds Family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Robyn Olson, and the emergency and 4th floor staff at the Victoria General Hospital for all of the loving care you provided. Ed, we know you loved us and we love you.Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 982-7550.
