MATHIESON: The death of Edward Mathieson (Eddy), age 77 years, of Brandon occurred on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Brandon Regional Health Centre with his family at his side. Dad was born to Nicholas and Annie Mathieson on December 31, 1932 in Oak River, Manitoba. He later moved to Brandon with his family, where he had resided all his life. Dad received his schooling at David Livingstone School, which was formerly on 13th St. and Assiniboine Avenue in the North End. He was always involved in the garage business, managing the former Shell station on 13th and Rosser, and in the early '70's, was the proprietor. He went on to work at Toyota for Bob Newhouse, formerly on Rosser Avenue and 3rd Street. From there he and good friend Joe Tahhan ran the "Pacific 66" service station on Victoria Avenue, next to the old A &W, or "A & Dubbia" as Dad used to say! (Dad would still have visits with Joe at Joe's Auto Clinic and have his car serviced until recently!). After that, he went on to Binkley Motors, working for Manse Binkley. He finally retired working for Len Kindrat of Len's AM Motors on 10th Street. "Lenny" and his son's were also good friends of Dads. Dad enjoyed his five pin bowling in his early years, winning many trophies and tournaments. He also loved his fishing, spending over 40 years at Sandy Lake, thirty two of them at our "little green and white" trailer overlooking Sandy Lake at"Edventure" Bay. His favorite spot was sitting in his lawn chair under the front bunk of the trailer, or down on the lakefront under the "leaning" black poplar tree with neighbours Ron and Ellen Smith! Those special times will be deeply missed by all. Dad was predeceased by his mother Annie in 1960, father Nicholas in 1980, brother Arthur in 2000. Surviving are: son Darryl (Tam) of Brandon, daughter Heather (Rick) of Brandon, stepson Stewart Mathieson of Creighton, Saskatchewan. Grandchildren: Ryan, Jerrick, Bryson, and Chelsea. Also surviving are: sister Francis (Charles) Koludrovic and their children David Koludrovic, Susan (Bill) Suglich and their daughter Katie, of Escondido, California, as well as special friends and Godparents to Darryl; Lewie and Luella Czech and their family. Special thanks to the nurses and doctors in the Emergency Department, and in the Intensive Care Unit. Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Mona Franklin will officiate. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
