BOLLMAN: Robert H. (Bert) Bollman passed away peacefully at the Rivers Palliative Care Unit on September 22, 2010 at the age of 85 years. Bert is remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. Bert was the youngest son of Fredrick and Almira (Roach) of Moline. He joined the R.C.A.F. in 1942 and after 18 months service received a compassionate discharge in order to help his father on the Bollman farm. Bert farmed the original land homestead by his grandparents in 1880. Bert loved his farm and all it involved; from clearing the land, to raising livestock and watching the crops grow each year the homestead blossomed. Bert married Georgina Dale of Hamiota on October 25, 1947. He was a devoted husband who enjoyed 63 years of married life. They were a perfect team; working together, raising their family, enjoying many travels and especially enjoying the company and good times with so many dear friend and relatives. His four grandchildren had a special place in his heart and they for him. Bert was committed to building community and was an enthusiastic leader and volunteer for many organizations. Moline was special to him and he was so interested in the Molinepeople, its history and roots, he worked hard to keep it on the map. In the early years he was a member of the Order of Foresters, served as a board member for many organizations including the Moline Co-op, Pool Elevator, and Moline school. He was a faithful member of the Moline United Church and proudly provided organ music for many years. Woodworking was a favorite hobby creating furniture, toys for the grandchildren and lots of fun gadgets. He enjoyed being a 4-H woodworking leader. The Bollman Century farm was sold after being in the family for 111 years. Bert and Georginaretired and moved to Rivers in 1991. Bert quickly adapted to town living and was delighted to find new ways to contribute and add value to his community. Many people benefited from his interest of lawn bowling and the care he took of the greens. Dear to his heart was the Rivers 50 Plus Club where he loved the games of shuffleboard, floor curling and of course the wonderful times of fellowship. Bert will be remembered as a man that loved life gave his best and created fun wherever he went. His sense of humor and love of pranks are special memories. He was proud of his family and extended family and always had time to give of himself when needed. Music was an integral part of his life and he shared his gift of music with many including playing at the Rivers Care home. He delighted in his pen collection of over 2,500 from around the world. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Georgina of 63 years, daughters Lynne Manikel, Glenda (George) Neufeld, brother Frank and sister-in-laws Ellen (Leonard) Bollman and Shirley Dale. Grand children: Leigh Manikel (Denise Little), Mark Manikel (Joni Wiebe) Jon Neufeld (Jamie) and Juli Rohl (Rick) as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. His Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Rivers United Church, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Glenna Beauchamp officiating. A private family interment followed at Pettapeice Cemetery. A time of fellowship and refreshments was at the Rivers Legion Hall. Pallbearers were; Grandchildren Leigh Manikel, Mark Manikel, Jon Neufeld, Juli Rohl and nephews Ray Bollman and Brian Bollman. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at the Brandon General Hospital, especially Dr. Tomayo and Dr. Ramaya and for the loving care provided at the Rivers Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, for those so desiring donations may be made in Berts memory to the Rivers Palliative Care Unit or a charity of your choice. Campbell Funeral Home, Hamiota were in care of arrangements.
