CANTY: Evelyn Elizabeth Canty. It is with sadness that the family of Evelyn Elizabeth Canty announce her peaceful passing at Vernon, B.C. on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the age of 88 years. Evelyn was born at Oak Lake, Manitoba on March 15, 1922 the youngest daughter of Herbert and Elizabeth (McKay) Pigg. She attended school at Kemnay. Mom married our Dad William (Bill) Canty on December 2, 1942 and they farmed at Hayfield and later Kemnay, moving to Brandon in 1959. Mom was a wonderful cook, and cooking became her career. She was a cook at the Brandon Golf Club until 1964 when Bill and Evelyn moved to Calgary. Mom worked at the Earl Grey Golf Club, then ran her own coffee shops, first at the North Hill Curling Club and then for many years at the Calgary Curling Club. Evelyn retired to Vernon, B.C. in 1981. Evelyn was predeceased by her loving husband Bill Canty in 1975, son Bill in 2000, and son Herb in 2003, all her siblings and their spouses, Alf and Lois Grant, George and Grace Young, Norm Pigg and Doug and Kay Pigg, as well her brothers and sisters-in-law, Dick and Anne Canty, Tim and Dorothy Canty, Gene and Kathleen Maylott and Jud Miller, five nephews and three nieces. Mom has left us now to be reunited with them all; also by lovingly pets, Charlie, Minnie and Patches who gave her endless happy hours. Evelyn is survived by daughters: Kathleen Hourie (Roaldaho), Winnipeg, Manitoba and Judith Canty, Vernon, B.C.; special granddaughter Meghan Canty Domonkos and Brent of Surrey, B.C.; grandchildren, David and Darcy Canty, Michelle Hourie (Ron) and Holly Aho; great-grandchildren, Michelle’s children, Joshua Hourie (Bianca), Jordan Scott (Cheyanna), Sierra and Sienna Jackson; Holly’s children, Quiru, Tobais, and Keyon-Dré Julian; great-great-grandchildren, Oshay and Jerrell Hourie and Ivory Scott of Winnipeg; grandchildren: Carrie (Canty) Jensen (Gerald), and Micheal (Theresa) Canty, great-grandchildren Madisen Jensen and Teghan Canty-Thompson, McKinely, Peyton, and Grace Canty of Calgary; grandchildren: Ryan (Vicky), Kristen (David) and Kelly Canty of Brandon; daughters-in-law, Lorraine Canty, Calgary, Karen Canty (Luc), Brandon, sister-in-law Margaret (Canty) Miller of Fort Frances, Ontario; nephews and nieces, Ted Young, Ray Grant, Tim Canty, Lorraine McCulloch, Katherine Kay, Louise Fox. Evelyn was a kind and gentle woman who enjoyed a good laugh. She loved cooking, baking, gardening, traveling and having friends and family come for visits. “We will miss you always”As Mom wished, immediate cremation took place. An interment will take place on October 9, 2010 in Calgary where she will be interred with Dad at St. Mary’s Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Evelyn’s life will be held at Dover Community Centre, Calgary. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or charity of choice. “Rest in peace”
