LUHOWY: Anne Dorien Luhowy, October 11, 1947 - October 14, 2010. It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Anne Dorien Luhowy, beloved wife of Nelson Luhowy, on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at the Rossburn Health Centre after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 63 years. Anne was born October 11, 1947 to Bill and Sophia Kozun. She was raised on the family farm in the Mears district north of Rossburn and was the fifth child in a family of nine. She attended Chmelnycki School for 8 years and later attended high school in Rossburn for 4 years. Anne met Nelson Luhowy in 1967 and the two were married in Rossburn in 1969. Their only son, Troy William, was born May 1971. Troy was always a source of pride to Anne and Nelson and the two loved following him through baseball and hockey, before he became a teacher, and started his family with wife Michelle in 2006. Anne worked at the Toronto Dominion Bank in Rossburn until 1985 before finding her passion in the healthcare field where she worked as a homecare attendant and later as a nurses aid at the personal care homes in Sandy Lake and Rossburn. Anne was always dedicated to her work and looked forward to time spent with her co-workers, as well as patients. The simple pleasures in life were enjoyed the most by Anne. She loved socializing at the local coffee shop for all the latest news (while adding her own opinion to the situation at hand) and would be the first one to try out a new hairdresser. She enjoyed clipping coupons, shopping, going out for breakfast on Sundays, curling, and gardening and having company over for a visit and a glass of wine, with ice of course. Always organized, Anne was quick to offer fundraising help to the various organizations within the Rossburn community. She was forever ready with Club 200 tickets for the local curling club or grey cup pool in support of the Little Cubs Den Daycare, Ukrainian dance group, Rossman Lake Golf Course, or Rossburn Hornets hockey team years ago. In the past, she volunteered her time with catechism classes, Rossburns minor hockey and baseball teams, the annual Harvest Festival, and more recently with the Terry Fox Run. Her greatest love was children. She always showered them with attention, gifts and unconditional love. They all knew her as Auntie Annie. The last few years in her life were made even happier becoming a baba to her two grandchildren, Reid Nelson and Addison Dianne. Anne was most proud of them and always had pictures on hand to share with everyone. Although she was only able to experience the happiness as a baba for not even two years, her eyes always lit up with the sight of her grandchildren and we know she will be watching over them forever. After being diagnosed with cancer on Christmas Day 2009, Anne was given four months to live. Through sheer determination, she endured intense pain and surpassed this timeline for a total of nine months. Anne made the most of every moment by never giving up until her final moments when God called her home on October 14, 2010. Her love, generosity and guidance will be forever missed. Anne was predeceased by her parents: Bill and Sophia Kozun, brother-in-laws Nick Gensiorek, Leonard Mackedenski, and niece Luanna Mackedenski. Left to cherish many fond memories is her beloved husband Nelson of 41 years, son Troy with wife Michelle, and grandchildren Reid and Addison, in addition to numerous friends, nephews and nieces, she will be forever remembered by 7 sisters: Marie Gensiorek, Phyllis and Henry Hrubeniuk, Helen and Paul Stanchuk, Judy and Dan Kuzyk, Ollie Mackedenski, Diana and Tom Lawless, Verlene and Randy Bruce; her 1 brother, Eugene and Evelyn Kozun; her 5 brother-in-laws and their spouses: Melvin and Jeanne Luhowy, Stanley and Lydia Luhowy, Morley and Evelyn Luhowy, Zane and Elsie Luhowy, Donald and Lavina Luhowy. Prayers were held at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Ukrainian Catholic Church the evening of Tuesday, October 19. The funeral service was held the morning of Wednesday, October 20, with interment following in the parish cemetery. Father Mykhaylo Khomitskyy officiated. Pallbearers were: Darrell Drul, Dennis Kaskiw, Vince Kurchaba, Eugene Lepischak, Michael Luhowy, and Manley Mackedenski. Crossbearer was Megan Luhowy. Raes Funeral Service of Shoal Lake and Erickson were in care of the arrangements.
