STEVENSON: Robert Roy Stevenson. July 4, 1936 - November 17, 2010. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert “Roy” Stevenson on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Eleanor; their children, Dale (Melanie), Jodi (Nick), and grandchildren, Cameron, Hannah, JJ and Mollie. Roy was born in Souris, MB and began his lifelong career with CP Rail at an early age, thus igniting his love of trains. This career took him and Eleanor to homes in Souris, Plum Coulee, Winkler, and then to Brandon where he retired as a mobile supervisor after 39 years of service. During this time he also became a lifetime member of the Kinsmen Club of Winkler. Roy took advantage of his retirement and enjoyed many hours of going out for coffee with the various coffee gangs. He also went to help out at the Carlysle farm by Souris and enjoyed being out there and working of their machinery. To further his passion of trains, he proudly showed generations of old and young how to operate a telegraph machine; most recently at the Austin Thresherman’s Reunion. Roy and a couple of his buddies also discovered an old payroll railway car in Neepawa and had it relocated to Souris to restore it so future generations can share in this bit of history. The family wishes to express their thanks to all the friends and family who came to see Roy while he was in the hospital, his emotions truly showed how much those visits meant to him. A special thanks to Rose who has been our “Rock” through all of this. Roy was a soft spoken, kind soul who will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Town of Souris - Railway Museum, Box 1015, Souris, MB, R0K 2C0. A Celebration of Roy’s Life will take place at the Railway Museum in Souris in the summer of 2011.
