MacMILLAN: Madeline Anne MacMillan passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Fairview Nursing Home. Madeline was born on December 6, 1930 in BrandonMB to William and Ruth Woodland. Madeline lived in Brandon all of her life. As a young girl Leanie loved to sing and play baseball. As a young woman she loved to dance at the Palladium and won many "jive" competitions. Madeline worked for Perth's Dry-Cleaners and then went on to work in the laundry department at the Brandon General Hospital. In 1977, she retired from her career as a laundress and moved in with her daughter Phyllis and son-in-law Brian. For 32 years, Leanie resided on 3rd Street North. She loved to cook and enjoyed her many dinner parties with family and friends. Her father was a professional chef and she learned the art and love of cooking from him. She was famous for her pastries and homemade soup and spaghetti. Leanie loved to spend her summers at the cabin at Clear Lake with her family where she enjoyed many a sing song late into night. Leanie was not only a mother and grandmother, she was a woman with a heart of gold. Generous like no other, she gave everything she had to her family. When her great grandchildren came along they lovingly named her GG. GG would watch her great grandchildren when any opportunity arose and loved every minute of it. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Phyllis (Brian) Lawrence, two grandchildren Elvi (Ryan) Shanks and Megan Lawrence (Geoff Nevin) and two great-grandchildren Hayley and Rylan Shanks. She will be missed by many friends including her best friend Mollie Nevin and close family friends Elvi, Brian and Syreeta Molsberry. At Madeline's request no funeral will be forthcoming. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life was held on Saturday, November 20, 2010. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice in her memory. Special thanks to the nursing staff on the 4th floor at Fairview Nursing Home. The family would also like to extend a thank you to family and friends for the flowers, baking, cards and many phone calls and visits. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330."Until we meet again Mom, Grandma Leanie and GG. We will love and miss you always."Her Journey's Just BegunHer Journey's Just BegunDon't think of her as gone away, her journey's just begun,Life holds so many facets, this earth is only one,Just think of her as resting, from the sorrows and the tears,In a place of warmth and comfort, where there are no days or years,Think how she must be wishing, that we could know today,How nothing but our sadness, can really pass away,And think of her as living,in the hearts of those she touched,For nothing loved is ever lost, and she was loved so much.
