SOMERSET: Mr. Gordon Donald Somerset, beloved husband of Georgina and dear father of Steven and Barry (Tara), passed away peacefully at the Assiniboine Centre on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the age of 80 years. Gordon was born on January 26, 1930 in Croydon, Surrey, England to George and Elsie Somerset. He had one older sister, Patricia. Gordon served two years with the armed forces and was on the reserve list. He met the love of his life, Georgina (Humphreys) in 1953 while working at Muirheads Factory in Elmers End, England. They became married in 1954. Together, on June 26, 1957, they sailed across the ocean from South Hampton to Montreal, settling in Brandon. Gordon soon became employed with Manco Dairies as a driver/salesman. He worked there for eight years and then moved on to become a Security Guard with Simplot. Gordon also worked for Behlen Wicks and later as a maintenance man for an apartment block. His most recent position was as a Commissionaire with C.F.B. Shilo. Gordon was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. In younger years, Gordon and Georgie loved to dance they were known as Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers on the dance floor. In later years, they went out for coffee faithfully every night to Robins on 8th Street. He was very involved with his children and grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed taking part in Stevens and Barrys activities while they were growing up, especially moto-cross and hockey. Gordon is survived by his wife Georgie, sons Steven and Barry (Tara), grandchildren Journey, Samuel, Valley, Athalia and Layla, sister Patricia (Tom) Webb and their family. Gordon was predeceased by his parents. The family would like to thank the staff at the B.R.H.C. ICU and 300 and the Assiniboine Centre 200 and 300 for their compassionate care of Gordon. A Celebration of Gordons Life was held at the Bethel Christian Assembly on Friday, November 26, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Davis officiating.
