BOYER: James Jim LeRoy. It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of James LeRoy Boyer, on August 28, 2010, after a very courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born to Olga and Roy Boyer of Lavenham, Manitoba. He was born in the Portage La Prairie hospital and raised on the family farm. Jim loved the outdoors He was a worker! He helped his father on the farm after school and on weekends. Later he worked with his father, farming and in the off season he worked in the northern oil fields of Norman Wells, and Fort St. John area. In 1967 he started to work at the Carnation Foods Potato Processing Plant at Carberry, Manitoba. He started as a shift foreman, however his desire to be outdoors led him to a Field Supervisor. In 1970 he started his own potato growing business at Souris, Manitoba. Jim was a very intelligent man, quite capable of running a very successful farming business. He farmed and grew potatoes for 29 years. In 1999, due to ill health, Jim was forced into semi-retirement. After recovering he worked for Redfern Farm Supplies at Souris. He was always ready for a joke, either giving or receiving. After the move to Virden, Jim worked part-time for Cam Manser as a water truck driver/farmer. In the fall at Carberry, Jim would drive a potato truck for growers. He loved the smell of the fresh earth and excitement of getting the crop off. Jim was a man quite capable of all things related to farming and was never afraid of a challenge. Jim loved to play ball, curl, golf, hunt, and spend time at the lake fishing. He truly enjoyed watching his grandson, Will, play ball and hockey. Jim knew it would be only a matter of time before Will would get the upper hand in a game of golf.
