PETTINGER: Hazel Marion passed away peacefully at the Souris Personal Care Home on November 16, 2010 with her loving family by her side. She was in her 89th year. Marion was born on the Sneath family farm at Elgin, Manitoba on October 18 1922, and lived one mile from that farm her entire life except for the first three years of marriage when Stan was in the Canadian Air Force from 1942-1945. Following the closing of the Elgin Church, she attended Faith Community Baptist Church in Souris. Marion was an avid seamstress, teaching 4-H classes and sewing everything from teddy bears to wedding dresses - no request was too much work. Preparing meals and gardening gave her great pleasure. Most of all she cherished her time spent with her family. She cared deeply for each one - child, grandchild, and great- grandchild. She was selfless, always putting others before herself. A service celebrating Marions life was held at Faith Community Baptist Church on Sunday, November 21, 2010. A private interment took place at the Elgin Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brad and Tyler Rice, Paul, Jay and Cory More, Kyle Pettinger, Jonathan and Tyson Pettinger, Matt Sean, Connor and Braden Pettinger. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Cram and staff at the Souris Personal Care Home for their wonderful care of Mom during the ten months she made that her home. Kowalchuks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. In memory of Marion, donations may be made to the Elgin Community Fund, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
