LEWARNE: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley Lewarne on Monday, November 29, 2010 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, after a long medical history. Stan was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend. Stan was born in Winnipeg on January 5, 1924. After his schooling, Dad went to Ag school and then moved to Souris where he worked on the McSorley farm which he later purchased. In Souris, he met the love of his life, Harriet Brown, affectionately known as Hattie. They were married in 1953. Sons Grant and Kent and daughter Kim all arrived in Souris while Dad and Mom were farming in the area. In 1967, Dad went to work as an assistant at the Hartney UGG Elevator. In 1969, Dad became the elevator manager of the UGG in Cromer. He was later a relief manager and grain auditor for UGG. Due to deteriorating health, Stan went on long term disability in 1984 and retired in 1989. In 1999, as he was losing his eyesight with macular degeneration, Dad decided it would be better to live in Brandon closer to the medical attention he would need. Dad very much missed the small town and found transition to city life and losing his drivers license very hard. Dad loved watching sports and even when his eyesight went he would still listen to the games and highlights and keep up on everything. Dad loved to fish and truly enjoyed his trips up north while Kent lived there. Jan Lake was a favorite place for Dad. Left to mourn Stans passing are his loving wife, Hattie of 57 years; son, Grant (Bonnie) Trevor and Jennifer of Cromer; daughter Kim (Lawrence McInnes) of Brandon, Shannon (Scott Burgess) and great grandson Jackson of Brampton, Ontario, Sean of Estevan, Saskatchewan; and son Kent (Karen), Mallorie, Lexi and Robi of Pilot Mound, sister Myrna (Jim Loewen) of Mississauga, Ontario and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Stan was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Edith Lewarne; sister Ruth; granddaughter Rikki; Hatties parents, Mel and Velma Brown; sisters-in-law Melva (Doug Balance) and Margaret (Gordon McRae). Over the past several years, Dad has made frequent visits to the Brandon Clinic and Brandon Regional Health Centre. We cannot thank the staff at the clinic enough for their kind care and attention to all of Dads health needs. To Dr. Duncan, Cindy and the rest of Station 1 staff, our sincere thanks. To the hospitalist team two and the staff of 400 and A300, thank you for caring for Dad over the years and in particular, over the past several weeks. Dads pleasant nature and smile was mentioned many times to us. You all always made him smile and we appreciate your kindness and concern. Thanks also to Danita and our Home Care team and to Donna Hamm and staff of Caring Companions. You have all been fantastic and so caring, always brightening Dads life. A Celebration of Stans Life was held at Brockie Donovan Chapel on Thursday,December 2, 2010 at 11am with Rev. Shannon McCarthy officiating. Special memories of Dad were shared by Kim and Kent Lewarne. Refreshments and fellowship followed at the Central United Church Auditorium. A family graveside service was held prior to the service in Souris with son-in-law Lawrence McInnes officiating. Donations in memory of Stan may be made to Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3 or to a charity of ones choice.
