MAGUIRE: December 1, 1933 - January 2, 2011. Former Brandon resident, James W Maguire, Jim as his friends knew him passed away while in the care of Masterpiece Living in Medicine Hat on January 2, 2011 at the age of 77 years. Jim leaves his wife Mae, son Trevor and wife Deborah of Brandon, Manitoba, daughter Shannon and husband Kurt Rosentreter of Toronto, Ontario and granddaughters Meghan Maguire and Chloe and Kira Rosentreter. Also surviving is his sister Shirley Gunderson and husband Harald of Calgary. He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Odelia Maguire, step-father Herman Gustafson and brother Wallis Maguire and sister Wilma Alair. Jim was born on December 1, 1933 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, to Clarence Sidney Maguire and Odelia Gustafson (Maguire) (nee Jans). He grew up in Medicine Hat before moving to his step-fathers farm in Hardisty, Alberta, where he loved to drive his W4 tractor. He worked in the transport industry before finally settling in the insurance industry. Jim moved to Brandon, Manitoba in 1972 where he started Maguire Insurance Agency. He spent more than 32 years in Brandon, where he and his wife, Mae, raised their family and enjoyed their cottage at Lake Metigoshe until he retired and returned to Medicine Hat. Jim was proud to serve his community for over 40 years as a member of the Lions Club, serving both as President and District Governor. He took great pride in the expansion of 56 Lions Clubs throughout Manitoba. A private family service will be held at a later date at St. Margarets Church in Eagle Butte, Alberta. Memorial donations in memory of Jim can be made to Canadian Diabetes Association, Medicine Hat and District Branch 102 73 7th Street SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1J2, or volunteer at your local Lions Club.
