McLAUGHLIN: Frank Neil McLaughlin, passed away on the 18th of January, 2011 in Lethbridge, Alberta. Frank was born in Bass River, NS to Charles and Catherine (Cassie) McLaughlin on May 5th, 1926. He began a career in the Canadian Army in 1944 and served with the Artillery and the Airborne. While on a "sandbag line" during the 1950 Winnipeg Flood he met Ina Hawkins, who was teaching in Winnipeg. They were married in the fall of 1951 and resided in CFB Shilo. Shortly after their marriage Frank went overseas to serve in Korea. Upon his return a series of military postings took them across the country, back to Shilo, to Germany and finally back to Shilo in 1966. He retired from active service in 1968, however, he continued to work in Shilo as a civilian until 1980. He enjoyed curling in his younger years. In later years he enjoyed a daily walk, playing cards, vegetable gardening in the summers and park activities in Arizona during the winters. Later still he enjoyed the activities and company of the fellow residents of River Ridge Condominium in Lethbridge. Frank was predeceased by Ina, his wife of 52 years, his parents, his siblings, Harry, Allen, Roy and Maude. He will be missed by sons Kenneth (Linda), Julie, Deanna and Andrew, of Moose Jaw, SK; Leslie (Arlene), Cassie (fiancé Curtis Gerbrandt), Sarah, and Dylan, of Winnipeg, Manitoba; Glenn (Susan), Ellen and Anna, of Swift Current, Saskatchewan; his special friend Lil Johnson; sister-in-law Bernice Chorneyko; brother-in-law Charles McIntyre (Joan), and numerous nieces and nephews.
