ROBERTS: Lorna Jean Roberts, age 58 years, died peacefully on January 11, 2011 at Brandon Regional Health Centre. Lorna was predeceased by her mother Elsie, and father Allan. Lorna was special; Special because she had Downs’s syndrome, but also because she loved and embraced life. Lorna had many loves which included travelling to Alaska, Hawaii, Scotland, England, USA, and from coast-to-coast in Canada. She also loved music, especially the bagpipes. She loved to sing and dance and participated in many Christmas carol sing-alongs. She loved coffee, cats, cleaning and dusting, sports such as bowling, and especially swimming. She took part in many Special Olympics and sported the medals to show her ability. Lorna also loved shopping and jewellery, attending concerts, and celebrations like birthdays. Lorna was very active right up until her passing. Her contributions to society were many. She was part of Brandon Community Options for 19 years, and on the board for 13 years. She was a member of the Kinsmen Aktion club, the AVIS club and of People First. Lorna worked at COR enterprises for almost 40 years. For many years she also worked part time at Ficek Insurance, Home Hardware, and Clothes for All. Lorna worked at the Christmas Dinners held in Brandon, cleaned seats at the Keystone after major events, attended bible camps, and attended Buccaneers every Monday night. Lorna’s smile was contagious, her laugh infectious. She will be greatly missed by her numerous cousins and many, many friends. A service of celebration was held on Jan 14, 2011 at Bethel Christian Assembly Church, Brandon, Manitoba. Internment will take place at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Kenton, Manitoba. For those so desiring, donations may be made in Lorna’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
