SORENSEN: Mary Sorensen (Shunewich) passed away peacefully on January 25, 2011. Mary was born in 1929 and lived with her parents and siblings in Mundare and Lamont, Alberta. When her father passed away, her mother remarried and moved to Manitoba. Mary finished her schooling in Goodlands, Manitoba. She then worked at Campbells General Store and met and married Albert Sorensen of Goodlands. They moved to Brandon to manage the 1 and 10 Motel and then the Starlight Motel. They then bought and managed the Dreamland Motel at Melita for many years. Later, Mary and Albert moved back to Brandon and Mary attended ACC to become an LPN. She worked for many years as a nurse. Mary had a love for cooking and painting. She was a member of the Brandon Palette Club until her eyesight started to fail. She then worked at the Twin Pines Motel as a cook which she enjoyed. She made lasting friendships with Cathy Ovarie and Jean Greiner. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Albert, her parents Tillie and Stephen Shunewich and sister, Adeline Scallizzi. Mary leaves to mourn her sister Phyllis Zimmerman (Paul), sister Lorraine Mandzak, her niece Tillie Lund (Robert), nephews David Zimmerman (Caroline) and Leslie Zimmerman and cousin, Tillie Rickerson. In later years Mary made her home at Kin Village where she enjoyed living and made many dear friends. She wll be greatly missed by her family and friends. Respecting Mary's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private funeral at a later date in Goodlands Cemetery.
