MILLS: It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Donelda Marguerite Mills, on Monday, January 31, 2011 at the age of 53 years. Donelda was born April 3, 1957 in Brandon, MB to Donald and Florence Gowanlock. She attended school in Brandon and spent her childhood years playing in the east end with her four siblings. Her family would often travel to “The Farm” to visit Grandma or take in the occasional harness race. She held various positions while working with Manitoba Government Services for more than 30 years, her last one being that of Gardener. She had many interests, the obvious one being gardening and taking care of her flowers, whether at work or home. Her pride and joy were her three grandchildren, Sydney, Mason and Colton. She was affectionately known by them as Grandma D, and not a day would go by that she wasn’t thinking of or doing something special for them. She enjoyed family gatherings, coffee at Dad’s on Sunday mornings, baking bread, playing dimes or crib, travelling, shopping and country drives. Left to cherish her memory are her partner of 28 years Butch, daughter Alana (Kyle), granddaughter Sydney, and grandson Colton, son Chris (Michelle) and grandson Mason, father Donald, sisters Bernice, Brenda and Barb, brother Brian, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Florence in 1992 and grandmother Thelma in 1997. A Celebration of Donelda’s Life was held at Brockie Donovan Chapel on Friday, February 4, 2011 with Mr. Jamie Berry, Funeral Celebrant, officiating. A private family interment followed at Milford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donelda’s memory may be made to the charity of choice.
