FALLIS: It is with great sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Myrtle Olive Fallis. She left us peacefully to be with Dad on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at the Souris Health Centre with her family at her side. Myrt was born August 4, 1920 and raised in Souris, the daughter of William and Jesse Begg. She married Alex Fallis on February 4, 1941. They farmed north of Souris for thirty-eight years on the family farm where they raised three children, Garry, Joan and Blaine. They retired to Souris to spend many happy and active years. During Dad’s illness Mom cared for him and devoted her life to him until his passing in 2002. The last six years she lived in the Souris Manor where she enjoyed many visits from family and friends. Mom was a homemaker for most of her days and she made their home a meeting place where all the family and friends were welcomed with open arms and treated royally. She was a member of the United Church, a member of the Rebekah Lodge for thirty-five years and also president of afternoon Ladies Curling Club. Her hobbies were sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking, and playing cards, dancing and visiting with friends. In latter years she kept in touch with family and friends on the computer. Mom’s presence will be greatly missed by her family and friends for her caring ways and special interest in our life. Left to cherish her memory are sons, Garry (Karen), Blaine (Helen), daughter, Joan (Ron) Saunderson. Grandchildren, Pam (Garth) Parker, Booklyn and Jordan; Kim (Rick) Thiessen, Tori and Mitchell; Steven (Tracy) Saunderson, Ben and Nolan; Brad (Marie) Fallis; Sean Brooks (Tania), MacKenzie; Derek (Kim) Brooks, Logan; and Jason (Crystal) Brooks, Kohen. Brother, George (Joyce) Begg; sister-in-law Janet Plewes, and several nieces and nephews. Her husband Alex, son David and siblings Chester, Hannah, David, Helen and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law predeceased her. A service celebrating her life was held at St. Paul’s United Church, Souris, on Monday, February 7, 2011with Rev. Harvey Hurren officiating. A family interment will be held at a later date in the Souris and Glenwood Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Souris and Glenwood Foundation, Box 518, Souris, Manitoba. Kowalchuk’s Funeral Home Souris in care of arrangements. Expression of sympathy may be made at dkowalchuk@mts.net.
