SMITH: George William Smith. George passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the age of 95 years at Fairview Home. George was born June 13, 1915 to Alex and Margaret Smith of Virden, Manitoba. His father bred Clydesdale horses and in 1929 the two of them were chosen to show in the Toronto Winter Fair. Every year after that they showed and took top prizes. George and his brother Watson carried on the tradition. He was a member of the Clydesdale Association and he judged and showed all over Canada. They also sold some of their horses to Budweiser. In 1939, they moved to Carberry, Manitoba and farmed there until George moved to Brandon in 1992. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Isabella Gardiner andbrother Watson. He is survived by his sister Irvy Rasmussen, niece Violet(Gordon) Selby, nephew Ian Rasmussen and many grand nieces and nephews.George is also remembered by his friends Gwenn and Irwin Eggleton, Janetteand Garry Haverstock, Betty and Bob Strain, Wilma and Dave Cleghorn, as wellas special little friend Hannah Boulet whom he thought of as family. Familyand friends would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at FairviewHome. A private service will be held at a later date.
