TURTON: Peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Dinsdale Personal Care Home, Cliff Turton passed away at the age of 90 years. He is survived by his daughter Heather; son-in-law Dean and grandsons: Jeffery and Derek Dickson and Jessie Turton. Cliff was predeceased by his daughter Lynn Turton; his parents William and Matilda; siblings Gertrude, Hazel, John, Doris, Victor, Lawrence and Wilf. Cliff was born on February 5, 1921 in Saskatchewan and moved to the Sinclair District of Manitoba in 1927. He spent the next several years working on the farm and eventually moved with his family to Rapid City in 1937. The call to war saw Cliff enlist in 1942 and after basic training, he headed overseas in 1943, first to England followed by action in France, Holland, Belgium, and Germany. Upon his return in 1945, and discharge from the army in 1946, he returned to Clear Lake where he worked for several years before moving to Brandon in 1952. Employed by Cook's Roofing and Insulation, Cliff learned the necessary tools of the trade which ultimately lead to the formation of Turton Shingling and Siding, a business which he operated until his retirement in 1985. In 1958, he married Jessie Evans and from this union they had two daughters, Lynn and Heather. His family enjoyed his passion for camping which led to many trips within Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the United States, highlighted by longer trips to both California and Florida. In winter, Cliff could be found playing or skipping on many different curling teams. The highlight of his curling career was the rare feat of scoring an eight ender and becoming a member of this exclusive club. The family wishes to acknowledge the personal attention provided by Caring Companions as well as the exceptional care that Cliff received from the staff at Dinsdale Personal Care Home. The Ceremony to Celebrate Cliff's Life will be held at Central United Church, 327 - 8th Street on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Shannon McCarthy will officiate.
