MISCAVISH: Melvin Larence Miscavich (Mel). It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce Mel’s passing on the evening of March 5, 2011 at the Neepawa Health Centre, with his loving niece, Joanie, at his side. Mel passed away at the age of 75, after a three and a half year struggle from a debilitating stroke, and finally, pneumonia. He resided in Minnedosa for over 30 years, and after his stroke he moved to East View Lodge, and Country Meadows Personal Care Homes in Neepawa. Mel was predeceased by his parents, Lou and Jessie, and brother, Dave. He is survived by his daughter, Melody (Len) Dreveski of Lethbridge, Alberta, and grandchildren, Shawn of Brandon; Ryan (Bonnie) of Medicine Hat, Alberta; and Brittany (Glen) Hurl of Portage La Prairie, as well as six great-grandchildren. Also mourning his passing are sisters, Bernice (Michael) Saj, and Margaret (George) Hazelwood; brothers, Jack (Pat), and Joe (Darlene); along with 12 nieces and nephews and their spouses; 16 great-nieces and nephews, and 3 great-great nieces and nephew, along with many longtime, faithful friends. Mel was the eldest son of Lou and Jessie, born on June 19, 1935, on the farm near Polonia, Manitoba He started his working career with Canadian National Railway in October 1956, retiring in 1991 with 35 years service. Mel worked long, hard hours as a Diesel Electric Crane Operator, and was very proud of his accomplishments. He remained interested in CNR operations, and was in contact with his friend’s right to the end. Mel was known for his sense of humour (unusual at times), his “quick wit” and his incredible memory, he truly was one of a kind. He also had a passion for fishing, boating, camping, playing cards, daily coffee with “his buddies”, and frequent drives in the country to check the crops. We would like to thank Dr. Owen White for his exceptional care, and all the Neepawa Hospital staff who took such good care of Mel all the times he needed them. We are especially grateful to the dedicated staff in all departments at East View Lodge, and Country Meadows. We appreciate your daily care, compassion, and understanding. A celebration of Mel’s life will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the Viscount Cultural Centre, 293 Mountain Avenue, Neepawa, with Fr. Vincent De Paul Tchaoule officiating, followed by interment of cremated remains at Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mel’s memory to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of one’s choice. Do not mourn his death, smile, and thank God for the time you had with him.We will truly miss our daily visits.“Take care, see you tomorrow”.White’s Funeral Home, Neepawa, Manitoba, in care of arrangements.
