STRACHAN: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dallas Garth Strachan on March 29, 2011 at the Hamiota Health Centre. Dallas was born Feb 19 1961 in Hamiota. He grew up on the Strachan home farm and took his schooling in Hamiota. He then attended ACC in Brandon after High School. Dallas excelled at sports. His love of hockey, baseball, golfing and curling continued until his passing. He had many happy hockey experiences with numerous teams such as Deloraine, Neepawa, ACC and Hamiota. He also curled with his brother in 4 Provincial championships. He played hardball in his younger years and then later fastball. Dallas married Nancy Duncan on June 16, 1984 and they moved to the home farm where he farmed with his Dad and brother. Dallas and Nancy had two boys Tyler born 1986 and Joel born 1989. He then either coached or managed his boys hockey or baseball all through their school years. He rarely missed any sports they were involved in. Anyone who knew Dallas, knew of his competitiveness, his love of life, and the way he did everything at full speed. He was a giver, always the first there to help with whatever needed done. He never backed down from anything and volunteered for many community projects. He was well know for his huge smile and eyes that twinkled. Over the last few years he took in as much as he could. He did some travelling and camping and watched his kids play hockey. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Left to mourn Dallas' passing is his wife Nancy; sons Tyler(Serena), Joel (Michael); Mother Jean; brother Brent(Wanda); cousin Linda (Glenn); mother- in-law Ethel Armstrong (Barrie) and Aileen Turner; sisters in law Linda (Bill) Robinson, Sue-Anne (Craig) Price; brother-in-law Kevin (Yvonne) Duncan; several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Dallas was predeceased by his father Garth; brother Dennis; and father in law Harvey. A Celebration of life was held at the the Hamiota and District Sports Complex on April 2. If so desired donations may be sent to the ALS Society of Manitoba 493 Madison St, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3J 1J2; or the Hamiota District Sports Complex Box 100 Hamiota, Manitoba.
