MOSSOP: Mary Isabel (nee Dooley) passed away on Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Souris Personal Care Home at the age of 90. Mary was born March 17, 1921 at Hartney, Manitoba to Joseph and Annie Dooley, the eldest of eight children. Mary received all her schooling at Hartney, walking to school or driving the horse and sleigh with her younger sisters & brothers. In 1939 the family moved to the farm at Lauder where Mary helped out and also worked for neighbours until 1951 when she moved to Wawanesa and started working for Wawanesa Mutual. While at Wawanesa she met the love of her life, George Stewart Mossop; they were married on October 29th, 1960. In 1961 George and Mary moved to Neepawa where Mary became employed with Gill & Schmall Agencies, working in general insurance and travel. During this time Mary travelled to Arizona and Hawaii, and she and George enjoyed a bus trip to Alaska. In earlier years Mary had also enjoyed seeing Niagara Falls. Mary was a 4-H club leader, teaching sewing, and took pride in making most of her own clothing. She had a huge garden and canned most of their own vegetables, pickles, fruit and jams. Mary was a wonderful cook and thoroughly enjoyed hosting huge family dinners. In 1987 Mary and George retired to Souris to be closer to family, and there she immediately became active in the Drop-In Center. Mary is survived by sisters Mabel Wilson of Salt Spring Island, B.C., Jean (Frank) Jezzard of Reston, Manitoba, Anne Laurent of Carnduff, SasKatchewan, Dorothy (Gord) Burgess of Brandon, Manitoba and by brothers Joe (fiancé Jenny) Dooley of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Ernie( Cheryl) Dooley of Brandon, Manitoba and by sister-in-law Elsie Dooley of Steinbach, Manitoba as well as many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband George, brother Jim Dooley, sister-in- law Pat Dooley, brothers-in-law Alex Wilson and Clarence Laurent. The service to celebrate Mary’s life was held on Friday, June 3, 2011 at St. Paul’s United Church, Souris, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Souris Personal Care Home Sunroom Project c/o A.R.H.A. Box 10 Souris, Manitoba R0K 2C0 or a charity of choice.
