THICKETT: Irene E. Thickett of Brandon passed away at the Rideau Park Personal Care Home on Monday, May 16, 2011 at the age of 86 years. Irene was born at Russell, Manitoba. She spent her early years on the farm in Stratford district and attended the Stratford School. In 1945, she married Fred and they farmed in the Craigie district until 1974. After their move into the Town of Russell, Irene started working as a Dietary Aide at the Russell District Hospital. In 1997, she moved to Brandon and resided in the Odd Fellow’s Corner for 14 years. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Fred in 1984, her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Julie Tennant. She is survived by her children: Donald (Gail) of Brandon, Beverly (Terry) Smith of Comox, Wilma (Shane) Bartelette of Winnipeg, brother and sister-in-law; Russell and Kay Tennant of Winnipeg, sister-in-law Kay Valley of Langenburg, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Irene’s life was held on May 20 at the Braendle Bruce Chapel in Russell with Rev. Wayne Sanderson from Trinity United - Brandon officiating. Pallbearers were Dale Wondrasek, Ernie Thickett, Barrie Tennant, Dale Smith, Brad Smith and Doug Thickett. Interment was in the Russell Cemetery.
