GUTHRIE: Jack Guthrie passed away peacefully at Virden Hospital on June 28, 2011 in his 87th year. He was the son of Edward John and Ethel Guthrie and was the third generation to operate Guthrie Farms business. He is predeceased by his parents and sisters Mora Forsyth and Margaret Bulloch. He married Muriel Kay in 1944 and is survived by her after 67 years of marriage. Jack enlisted in the Air Force and was trained as a navigator in 1942. After the war he farmed and was involved in community life. He was on the school board, the Agriculture Society, the United Church board and coached ball and hockey. He was municipal councilor for 10 years and Reeve of the R.M. of Pipestone for 15 years. In 1992 he was awarded the Governor Generals 125 Medal for community service. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 65 years. We will all miss Dad, his knowledge, his patience, the twinkle in his eye when he told a story. His love of life and his will to live kept him going when his health began to fail. He never gave up. His strength will remain with us forever .until we meet again.
