SPILLER: Cameron Henry. On Sunday, July 24, 2011 at the Lions Prairie Manor, Cam Spiller passed away at the age of 82 years. Cam will be forever remembered and sadly missed by his wife Jean of 49 years; son Blake (Brenda); daughter Colleen (Barry) Vrooman and much loved grandchildren AJ Spiller, Dillon and Kaitlyn Vrooman; sisters Joyce (Frank) Coles, Eileen (Don) Webb, brother-in-law Les Koroscil, sister-in-law Betty and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Tom and Bertha; daughter-in-law Marcia; sisters Marge Mallett, Doreen Dutka and Isabelle Koroscil; brother Lyle; nephews Graham Webb, Steve Byczynski and Pat Spiller along with his in-laws Peggy and Andy McCallum and sister-in-law Grace and husband Claire Simpson. Cam was born on June 27, 1929 in Cardale, Manitoba where he was raised and attended school. He moved to Rivers where he was employed with Taylor & Son. Cam then worked in the construction industry as a journeyman carpenter at the potash mines in Esterhazy, Gerald and Rocanville, Saskatchewan from 1964 until 1972. The family moved to Portage where he continued his trade and eventually retired from the maintenance division of the Portage School Division in 1994. Cam was very involved in baseball and hockey all his life – first as a player, referee, umpire, coach and very vocal supporter. Cam lived for his family and they knew it only took a phone call and he would be right there regardless of what was needed – be it a ride somewhere, a babysitter or something that needed fixed. As per Cam’s wishes, there was a private family service with burial at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Cam’s memory to Portage Terriers Junior A Hockey Club, Box 33, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, R1N 3B2 or the Lions Prairie Manor Foundation Inc, 24 - 9th Street SE, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, R1N 3V4. A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel 857-4021. A message can be left in the on-line guest book at mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
