GIBSON: Calvin Peter Gibson March 20, 1934 – August 8, 2011. After a long and hard fought battle with multiple myeloma cancer and kidney failure, Calvin passed away at Brandon hospital, with his family at his side. Calvin will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years. Christena (Moffat), his son Shayne and wife Melanie along with their children, Tony (Mandy), Blair (Claire) and Jason (Lianne) and great granddaughter, Taryn Gibson, his daughter Sherry (Mullin) and husband Boyd along with their children Kailey, Candis and Shannon Mullin, and son, Derryle and wife Chris, as well as daughter-in-law Pat and her children Ryan Gibson and Kristin (Mat) Evans. Calvin will also be missed by sisters Gayle Currie and Faye (Danny) Stacey, brothers Ken (Laurie) and Jim (Heather) Sabad, sister-in-laws Mary Louise (Del) Walton, Georgena Moffat, Gwen Moffat and brother- in-law Andrew Moffat and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Brent (1987), parents Peter (1935) and Mabel (1997), brother David (2000), mother-in-law Tena (1986), father-in-law Russell (1958), sister-in-law Myrtle Sabad (1999), brother-in-laws Brian Moffat (1984), Frank Young (1993) and Bob Currie (2009). Calvin was born in Killarney, Manitoba. on March 20, 1934 the second son to Peter and Mabel Gibson. After completing his schooling in Holmfield, Calvin began farming. He worked in Sherridan and Lynn Lake, Manitoba the first two winters and in Atikokan Ontario to following winter. Along with the grain farming. Calvin also enjoyed cattle and spent many years raising and selling purebred cattle and bulls under the name Double C Charolais. In later years once he retired from farming he worked for Ecusta Fibre buying flax straw and for Shur-Gro at the anhydrous plant in Mather. In 2002, after being on the farm fifty years Calvin and Christena moved to Cartwright. Calvin enjoyed each day as it came and lived life to the fullest. He never missed an opportunity to visit and socialize with his friends and family. He enjoyed playing softball, curling, golfing and a game of pool. He also enjoyed gardening, country music, dancing and travelling with family. He was fortunate to have taken trips to the east and west coast as well as Hawaii, Florida, Arizona, New Zealand, Australia and the Dominican Republic. Sincere thanks to Dr Riche and the caring staff at the Brandon renal unit who were so thoughtful andcaring during this difficult time. Also, special thanks to all of his friends who took the time to visit him at home and at the diaylsis unit. A celebration of Calvin’s life took place on Friday, August 12th at 2:00 p.m. in the Cartwright United Church.
