NORRIE: Cyril Colin Norrie, April 19, 1930 June 17, 2011. Cyril Colin Norrie died Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Hamiota Health Centre at the age of 81 years, following a brave battle with cancer. Cyril was the beloved husband of Doreen and father of Angus, Chris, Neil and Ryan. Cyril was born April 19th, 1930 and grew up on the farm four and one half miles southwest of Decker on the west half of 34-14-25. Cyril was the ninth child in a family of ten born to John and Helen Norrie. Cyril started school at Decker. When he was in grade seven the family moved to the farm two and one half miles south of Isabella on 4-15-25. Cyril remained in school until grade 10 and farmed the home farm with siblings Thelma, Archie and Gordon. On October 8th, 1952, Cyril married Doreen Angus of Hamiota. They purchased the William Miller farm and resided there to the present. In 1975 they acquired the Adams farm and later in 1979, the Finkbeiner farm. Cyril participated in the community when called upon and enjoyed the many community activities when he could visit with friends and neighbours. He enjoyed coaching his boys hockey and frequented many square dances. He was predeceased by his parents John and Helen, brothers George (killed in WWII), Bill (Lois), Gordon, Charlie (Phyllis and Eunice), Archie and sisters Thelma (Don) Carnegie, Eleanor (Mel) Begg, Cora (Ted) Shier, nephews Don Norrie, Ron Norrie, and niece Lauren Kennedy. He was also predeceased by Doreens parents, Clifford and Eva Angus and brother-in-law Elgin Angus. Cyril is survived by his loving wife Doreen of 58 years, his sons, Angus (Pat) of Hamiota, Chris of Isabella, Neil (Michele) of Isabella, Ryan (Janice) of Hamiota. Left with many cherished memories of Grandpa Cyril are his grandchildren Michelle (Alan) Knight, Brett (Beth) Norrie, Sawyer, William, Caleb, Holden and Layne, and great-grandchildren Kyia, Carter, Karli, and Jaeda. He is also survived by his brother Frank (Ruth) of Surrey, B.C., last surviving member of the Norrie family, sister-in-laws Jean Norrie of Virden, Gloria Norrie of High River, Alberta, and Audrey Angus of Chilliwack, B.C. as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A private burial for family and close friends was held at Crandall Cemetery on Saturday, June 25 with Reverend Heather Robbins officiating, pallbearer, son, Chris Norrie, and piper, nephew, Ernie Carnegie. Following this, a celebration of Cyrils life was held in the Isabella Community Church with Linda Clark as organist. Michelle, granddaughter, shared special memories and a photostory of Grandpa and son, Ryan gave the eulogy. The choir consisted of friends from surrounding communities. A reception was held in the Isabella Hall served by ladies of the community. Campbell Funeral Home of Hamiota, Manitoba was in care of arrangements.
