MOSBY: Mrs. Maisie Mosby, beloved wife of the late Mr. Harvey Mosby, passed away at Valleyview Care Centre, Brandon, on Saturday, August 13, 2011. Maisie Lorena Mosby was born on April 21, 1913, on the family farm, 31-5-23, near Hartney, Manitoba, the second daughter of John and Emily ("Bessie") Thomas. She attended Melgund School through Grade 8, then Hartney High School. Hartney did not teach Grade 12 at that time so she completed Grade 12 in Dauphin. She attended Winnipeg Normal School and obtained her First Class Teachers Certificate in 1933. As it was the depression of the "Dirty Thirties" she was without a teaching position for two years. Later she taught at Whitewater near Hartney, at Egilson and Little Woody near Swan River and at Alcester near Minto. While at Egilson she met the love of her life, Harvey Mosby. Harvey and Maisie were married in 1941, and lived at Flin Flon where Harvey worked in the smelter of the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Co. At the request of her father, they returned in 1942 and farmed with him at Hartney. They bought land but lived with her father until he passed way in 1968 at the age of 90 years. They had three children Myrna, born in 1944, Ewen, 1948 and John, 1952. Maisie was interested in every aspect of the farm, throughout her entire life. Harvey and Maisie lived on the farm until they retired to their new house in Hartney in 1978. A member of Melgund United Church and later Hartney United Church, she taught Sunday School, was President of the United Church Women, Worthy Matron of Victoria Chapter #5 Order of the Eastern Star, and president of the Hartney Horticultural Society. After the devastation of Harvey's passing in 1979, she took courses at Brandon University and Assiniboine Community College, and later instructed classes in "Systematic Training for Effective Parenting" for young parents. Later she took a leadership training course through the Arthritis Society, and helped with arthritis self- management courses. Her greatest loves were her husband, her family, her church and her flowers. She was strongly determined and straightforward, with a deep faith. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and their achievements, and was delighted to have been blessed with three great-grandchildren in the past year. She was predeceased by her husband Harvey, her parents John and Bessie, her only sister Myrtle and husband Ross Delmage, three brothers-in-law, Orville, Edgar, and Bob Mosby, and her dear friend Mary Thomas. She leaves to mourn her passing, daughter Myrna (Larry) Adolf of Brandon, son Ewen (Amy) Mosby of Hartney, son Johnny (Karen) Mosby (former daughter-in-law Dianne) of Calgary, grandchildren Wendy Jo (Kurt) Ardron of Melita, Lisa (Adam) Howes of Calgary, Brittany (Mark) Walker of Stonewall, Juli Mosby and Dana Mosby of Calgary, and great-grandchildren Kadence Howes, Elena Ardron, and Alexander Walker. Maisie is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held from the Hartney United Church, Hartney, Manitoba on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Margret Kristjansson officiating. Interment followed at the Riverside Cemetery, Hartney, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maisie's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
