GEROW: Jenny Gerow, 81, of Souris Manitoba, died August 2, 2011. The funeral was held at the St. Paul’s United Church August 5, 2011. She was born, Janette Bell Houston to the late William and Janet Houston on November 11, 1929 in Winnipeg, MB. Jenny’s childhood was spent growing up in St. Francis and then Kenton. Her Grade 12 year was spent boarding in Hamiota. She went on to Teachers’ College in Winnipeg and subsequently taught at Glenvale, a rural school in the Brandon area. She married the late Frank Gerow in 1953, they lived, raised a family and worked on the farm north west of Souris until their retirement in 1983. They moved to Souris and worked as caretakers at the Manor for approximately 10 years. The past 9 years Jenny was a resident at the Personal Care Home in Souris. Jenny had many loves and hobbies throughout her life, she loved to curl and golf, she was a tough competitor when it came to cards or a game of scrabble, she enjoyed travelling with family, she contributed to the community in may ways, through the Legion Auxiliary, the Toastmistress Club, the Fairboard and the 4-H Clubs to name a few. Her most valued treasure was her family, especially her grandchildren who made her proud every day. Jenny is survived by five children: Darcy Gerow (Carol) of Souris, Sharon Barron (Nick) of Edmonton, Iris Gerow of Brandon, Nancy Hayes (Rick) of Edmonton and Brian Gerow of Brandon; Grandchildren Bryce, Curt, Kira and Karrie Gerow, Brett and Jill Barron and Brendan and Kaylin Hayes; sister, Jean Daniel of Hamiota; brother, Jack (Gwen) of Kenton; sister-in-law Florence Houston of Red Rock; sister-in-law, Margaret Davison (Al) of Edmonton and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Jenny is predeceased by her husband, Frank in 1997, parents William and Janet Houston, brothers Jim and wife Leah and William and wife Margaret Houston, brother, Tom Houston, sister Marion and brothers-in law Jim Daniel, Murray Fulkerson. In memory of Jenny, donations may be made to the Souris & Glenwood Foundation, Box 518, Souris, Manitoba, R0K 2C0.
