BRODA: Mike (Turk) Broda passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the Brandon Regional Health Authority after losing his brief but brave battle with cancer. Mike was born in Terrace, B.C. on October 12, 1956, but lived all his adult years in Brandon, Manitoba. He worked for Swish Marrin as a sales representative for the last 27 years. He travelled throughout Western Manitoba, all the way north to Thompson. He had an infectious love for life, and was always ready to greet friends into his home or cottage. He had many activities which he enjoyed, such as boating, racquetball, squash, and golf. By far, however was his love of snowmobiling. He loved his "toys", each of which was always new and always fast. Mike was honoured each year to host a golf tournament at Clear Lake for the last 15 years, rain or shine, which was always attended by a large number of friends. All participants and any other friends were then invited to Mike's cabin for a potluck supper. Mike also held a special place in his heart for his friend's children, and the children took to Mike like the "uncle" he wanted to be. He is survived by his mother Vera Slastukin; brother Rick, step brothers Robbie and Johnnie, and dozens of friends, too many to name, who he considered family. A celebration of Mike's life will be held at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church, 635 McDiarmid Drive, on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Dan Pope will officiate. A reception will follow, also at the Church. Anyone who wishes may donate in Mike's name to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for Palliative Care, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3.Expressions of sympathymay be made atwww.memorieschapel.comArrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
