MCFADDEN: Eileen May McFadden passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 atthe Assiniboine Centre in Brandon at the age of 81 years. Eileen was born in the R.M. of Daly on July 6, 1930 to Chester and Madge McFadden. She was the younger of two children born to Chester and Madge. She was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her older brother, Don and his wife Marg and also by their four children, Gordon and wife Michelle, Jamie and wife Lesley and Bruce and Barbara McCannell and husband Brent. She is also survived by nine great nieces and nephews. Eileen attended Rivers Consolidated School from which she graduated with her Grade X11 in 1947. She attended Wheat City Business College and then worked for a year. In 1949, she enrolled at Brandon College from which she graduated in 1953 with her B.A. degree. The following year, she received her Bachelor of Library Science degree from McGill University. In 1978, she received her Master of Library Science from the University of Toronto. From 1954 to 1956, she worked in the library at the University of Toronto and from 1956 to 1959 in the library at the University of Manitoba. In 1959, she was appointed as Director of Library Services at Brandon College/Brandon University, a position she held until 1977. In 1978, she was appointed University Archivist at Brandon University and she held that position until her retirement in 1997. Eileen was always very involved with both provincial and national library organizations and on two occasions presented papers to the national library organization convention. She was also involved in historical and women's organizations and was a long time member of the Order of The Eastern Star and the Manitoba Liberal Association. In 1990, she received the Women of Distinction award from the Y.W.C.A. A memorial service will be held at Rivers United Church on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Glenna Beauchamp officiating. Interment will be in the family plot at the Rivers Cemetery.
