WARSABA: Ramona Laverne Warsaba of Melita, Manitoba passed away at the Melita Personal Care Home on Monday, August 29, 2011 at the age of 82 years. Ramona was born in Lena, Manitoba on January 22, 1929 to W.C. (Charles) and Myrtle Hicks. She spent her formative years on the farm in the Cartwright and Killarney areas. On August 11, 1951 Ramona married Frank Warsaba in Killarney, Manitoba. Frank and Ramona lived in Deloraine and Waskada before moving to Melita in 1959. Frank was the John Deere implement dealer for 28 years and Ramona provided a solid foundation for their growing family in the home. Ramona enjoyed her flowers and garden and could always be seen tending to her plants. Mom loved to cook, bake, entertain and had many hobbies including painting, ceramics and related art. She had a great love of music and singing and was involved in the United Church choir. She even had occasion to try the violin! Ramona was involved for many years with the Golden Link Rebekah Lodge and occupied various offices, immensely enjoying the fellowship and social activities offered by that organization. Ramona was a member of the Melita Victoria United Church and was active in the United Church Women. Ramona was also active in the Canadian Diabetes Association, a member of the Melita Legion Auxiliary, and was an active volunteer in the Melita community. Frank and Ramona retired in 1984 and spent many winters in Chandler and Mesa Arizona, enjoying golf, dancing, and many social gatherings with their fellow snowbirds. Ramona was predeceased by Frank in January 1999. Mom moved into the Melita Lodge in November 2005. She enjoyed her short time there before moving to Willowview Home in Reston in May 2007. Ramona transferred back to Melita Personal Care Home in October 2010. In addition to Frank, Ramona was predeceased by her parents Charles and Myrtle Hicks; sisters: Alyce (Ed) Johnson, Dorothy (Reg) Patchett; brother Alex Hicks; brother-in-law Everett Orriss. She is survived by her two sons: Ken (Lorna) of Melita and their family Marcia (Jerry) Gruhn of Brandon, Manitoba and Debra Warsaba (Greg Rogers) of Winnipeg, Manitoba; and Ron (Patricia) and their family Bree, Spencer and Reid Warsaba all of Regina, Saskatchewan. She also leaves her sister Annie Orriss of Dundas, Ontario, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service was held at the Victoria United Church, Melita on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Allan Gairns officiating. Interment followed at the Melita Cemetery. Pallbearers were all of Ramonas grandchildren. All friends and acquaintances in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. Funeral arrangements were in care of Redpath Funeral Home, Melita, MB. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be given to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the charity of ones choice. Ramonas life touched the hearts of many friends and her spirit will continue to live in those she left behind. She will be sadly missed by all.
