LOGEOT: Violet Gertrude (Gertie) (nee Morris) Logeot, was born August 15, 1919, in Lampman, Saskatchewan to Albert Edgar and Mary Almyrta (nee Nephew) Morris. She was the youngest and only girl in a family of five children. When Gertie was five her father died while having preventative surgery for appendicitis. When she was 15, her mother succumbed to injuries sustained in an accident caused by a runaway horse upsetting the buggy. Gertie, herself, barely survived the incident. After her mother passed away, Gertie went to live with her Uncle Jim and Aunt Maggie Morris, at Lampman, where she stayed until she was 18. She came to the Hartney area where her brothers had found employment and went to work for Joyce and Harriet McBurney. It was there she met René Logeot, who was to become her husband on July 11, 1939. They were blessed with three sons. Gerald Albert was born on November 4, 1940, James René born on July 25, 1942 and Gary Charles on June 14, 1945. Sadly Gary was taken from the family as an infant on October 25 of the same year due to pneumonia. René and Gertie lived on several farms, working hard to make ends meet and provide for their sons. When the boys were born they lived near Belleview, Manitoba on a rented half section. By 1947 the family moved to the Findlay district where they finally had their own farm. They stayed there until 1963 when they moved to the Deleau area. Gerry married Carmen Marcq the same year and Jimmy married Doreen Hunt in 1981. René and Gertie retired into a new home in Souris in the fall of 1984. They enjoyed their time there until 1991 when René passed away, after which Gertie moved into the Breslaw Apartments and then later to Crescent Manor, both in Souris. Due to a need for personal care, she moved to Hartney in July of 2008. Over the years she was blessed with seven grandchildren, ten great grand-children and one great-great grandson. In her younger years, Gertie loved to play soft ball with family and friends. She was well known for her hospitality and generosity and it was impossible to go to her home without stopping for at the very least, coffee and snack. Her friendships followed her through her life. In her mid-80s good school friend Harry Reviere came back into her life and certainly brought her some much needed companionship. Sadly not long later it was learned that dementia was starting to become part of her life and in 2008 she needed the attention of the Hartney Personal Care Home where she resided until her death. After a very short illness Gertie peacefully passed away in the Souris District Hospital. Gertie was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Mary Morris and four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Melville, Raymond and Mary Morris, Wilson and Anne Morris and Everette and Doris Morris. Her husband, René Joseph in 1991 and sons, Gary in 1945 and Gerald in 2002. She is survived by sister-in-law Betty (Melville Morris) Reichert, daughter- in-law Carmen Logeot, son James René and his wife Doreen, grandchildren, Gwen (Tim) Murphy, Darryl (Diane) Logeot, Kim (Denis) Masson, Andrew (Jennifer Cook) Logeot, Albert (Gina Anderson) Logeot, Gary Logeot and Joseph Logeot, Great-grandchildren, Krista, Kendall, Ryan and Dylan Murphy, Lauren, Devon and Justin Logeot, DArcy, Chantelle and Brittany Masson and great-grandson Hayden Murphy. A memorial service was held in St. Pauls United Church, Souris on August 23 with the Rev. Wendy Rankin officiating. Grand-daughters Gwen Murphy and Kim Masson gave the eulogy. Interment was in the Souris and Glenwood Cemetery with pallbearers Brittany Masson, Krista Murphy, Kendall Murphy, Darryl Logeot, Gary Logeot and Albert Logeot. Kowalchuks Funeral Home of Souris was in charge of all arrangements. In Gerties memory, donations may be made to the Hartney Community Health Centre, c/o ARHA, Box 10, Souris, Manitoba, R0K 2C0.
