McKIBBON: Calvin Brook, born October 26th, 1959, died accidentally in Seattle, Washington on August 18, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Marissa, her children Eddie, Lorena and Anthony; his only child Madeleine from his first marriage to Kim Pollard. His mother, Lorna McKibbon of Wawanesa; sister Corinne Downey (Craig) her children Bond Ward (his daughter Emma) and Brooke Ward. He was predeceased by his father Jack McKibbon. Cal graduated from Wawanesa Collegiate in 1977 and received his Bachelor of General Studies from Brandon University in 1981. Cal worked as a Special Constable with the RCMP in both The Pas and Arborg before attending Depot in Regina and being posted to Surrey in 1981. In 1985 Cal joined the Surrey Fire Department where he spent 26 years and achieved the rank of Captain. Always an athlete he enjoyed most sports including his most recent passion skydiving. Cal chose to spend his life protecting and serving the citizens of Surrey, B.C. Although he left us too early we are so proud to have had him in our lives. A celebration of Cals life was held at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, Surrey, B.C. on August 26th. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m. on September 24th at the Wawanesa Cemetery. A time of remembrance will follow at the Wawanesa & District Memorial Hall, Wawanesa, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Wawanesa Swimming Pool, Box 427, Wawanesa, Manitoba, R0K 2G0.
