SHEPHERD: Venie Melville (Mel) Shepherd passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side at Fairview Home on September 7, 2011. Mel was born August 17, 1918 to William and Sarah Boyd in Brandon. She married Robert Douglas Shepherd on April 14, 1939 on her parent’s farm south of Brandon. They had five children, Robert, Barbara, Beverley, Dianna and James. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Stewart Boyd, her husband, Douglas and infant daughter, Barbara. She leaves to mourn her passing, her children, Robert (Ethel) Shepherd, Beverley (Bruce) Preston, Dianna (Albert) Krahn and James Shepherd; her grandchildren, Sharon (Dan) Shepherd-Dechka, Ken (Laurie) Shepherd, Kerrie (Al) Gibbs, Stacey (Chuck) Hutton, Becky (Rob) Switzer-Ricard and Jeff (Kate) Switzer and all of her great-grandchildren, Blake, Kirk, Brandon, Ella, Emmalee, Lyndsi, Abi, Cody, A.J., Riley, Rayna, Mackenzie, Avery, Bradley and Charleigh. Also surviving are her sisters, Flo Johnston of Brandon and Aileen Hassan of Winnipeg, brother-in-law Angus Shepherd of Moosomin, SK and sister-in-law Rosella Shepherd of Virden, MB, along with numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Phil Price officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Ken Shepherd, Jeff Switzer, Dan Dechka, Blake Dechka, Kirk Dechka and Brandon Switzer.
