HAWKINS – Ivy Kathleen (nee Hughes). Ivy passed away peacefully in the Souris Personal Care Home on Tuesday September 20, 2011. She leaves to mourn: her husband Harold Hawkins; daughters Kathy (Jack) Welsh and May Menkema; son George (Linda) Pringle; grandchildren Butch Menkema, Lee (Trish) Menkema, Allan Sampson, Chad, Scott and Jacquie Pringle; great-grandchildren Jesse, Merrik and Maddox Menkema. Ivy was born November 14, 1927 in the Brandon area to Clarence and Elsie Hughes. In 1948 she married George Thomas Pringle and together they farmed at Rounthwaite, later moving to Margaret in 1962 where they farmed and raised sheep. In 1971 George passed away. Later she married Don McKenzie and they live in Ninette. Don Passed away in 1977. Ivy led a full life working on the farm, at the Ninette Sanitarium and later at the Pelican Lake Training Center until she retired. She did volunteer work in her community, canvassed for the Canadian Cancer Society and was a member of the Legion. In 2000 she married Harold and they lived at Nesbitt where they had a huge garden. Together they canned, made preserves, juices, and froze vegetables and fruit. They enjoyed camping, bingo, legion meat draws and a favorite annual pastime was attending and volunteering at the Threshermen’s Reunion in Austin. Ivy enjoyed gentle teasing, baking cookies, embroidery, flowers and she was a very generous person. Funeral service was held at the Brandon Hills United Church on Saturday, September 24, 2011 with Rev. Carolyn Rushton officiating. Interment was at the Brandon Hills Cemetery.
