PETER KRAMARCHUK: We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Peter, with family by his side, on Monday October 10, at Brandon General Hospital at the age of 87. Peter was born in Poland in 1925 and arrived in Canada in 1929. Peter lived his entire life in Carberry except for the years spent in the service of the RCAF as a bomber pilot during WWII. Peter wed the love of his life, Gene Kitson, in 1953, and they spent the next 58 years together sharing a love for family and nature. Peter and Gene owned and operated the Style Shop, working side by side. In 1987 they retired and enjoyed their time together at both Carberry and Delta Beach giving them the opportunity to spend more time with friends and family. Peter was heavily involved in the community. He worked with the Boy Scouts, taught Sunday School, coached minor league hockey, was a volunteer fireman and volunteered at the Children’s Aid Camp. Peter was involved with the formation of the Spruce Woods Provincial Park, the Carberry Ball Park, the Seton Centre and the Junior Rifle Club. He was a Carberry District School Board Secretary-Treasurer. Peter was a member of the Legion, Elks, Fair Board, Game & Fish and Odd Fellows. In 1946 he received the Bronze Cross for heroism. In 2006 Peter received a Life Time Achievement award from the Carberry Chamber of Commerce. Peter was a caring person who enjoyed getting to know everyone he met. He accepted all for who they were and became part of many people’s lives. He loved to talk but always had a message. His stories, jokes, role as the community Santa Claus and his special “lollipop tree” for the children brought many smiles to young and old. His ability to share and appreciate nature with others was passed along to all his family and many friends. His daily morning routine started with filling the bird feeders, caring for the stray cats and enjoying the garden with Gene, marveling at the “Wonderful World”. Peter is survived by his wife Gene, four children and spouses, and seven grandchildren. Beverly/Scott Hamilton (Katherine, Chris, Alanna), Barb/John Ochitwa (Tyson, Tanner), Bruce/Rhonda Kramarchuk (Dylan, Spenser), and Brenda Kramarchuk/Rob Nelson. All of whom adored Peter / Dad / Grandpa. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 21, at 2 pm at the St. Agnes Anglican Church in Carberry. A private family internment will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Peter’s memory to the Crohn’s & Colitis Society or to the Carberry and Area Community Foundation. White’s Funeral Home, Carberry in care of arrangements. 1-204-834-2629.
