McLACHLAN: It is with great sadness that the family of Lea McLachlan announces her peaceful passing on October 14, 2011 at her residence Dinsdale Personal Care Home at the age of 93 years. Lea will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children: Margaret (Vic) Gerden, Jack (Eileen) McLachlan, Kathy (Wolf) Riedel; grandchildren: Lisa, Jill, Karyn and Andrew; great- grandchildren: Scott and Clara; nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by Bill, her loving husband of 65 years in 2007, her sisters Rita Hunter, Doreen Harris and Zella Dunkin. Lea was born on June 9, 1918 in Russell, Manitoba to Annie and Henry Bell. She was educated in Russell and in Winnipeg where she graduated from Business College. Throughout her life Lea worked as a legal secretary, church secretary, in various banking positions, and as general manager in the family business, The Empire Publishing Company Limited. Lea was devoted to her family and almost all her activities were centered around them. Holidays at home in Virden were celebrated with great food and fun. The house was always beautifully decorated and no effort was spared to ensure that everyone was included. Trips, first in a tent, then in a trailer, and finally in a motor home were made to all parts of North America with the children and often one of their friends. Travel also included trips to Europe. Activities such as quilting, gardening, golfing and bridge were lifelong interests. Lea will be remembered for her positive attitude, for her ability to cope with adversity and for her quiet, kind and friendly nature. She has left a legacy of happy memories for her family and friends. A come and go reception will be held at Memories Chapel on Thursday, October 20, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A private family interment will be held at the Virden Cemetery. If friends wish, donations in memory of Lea may be made to the Arthritis Society, Suite 105 - 386 Broadway Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
