SHWALUK: Eleanor Kathleen Shwaluk (nee Riddle). It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Eleanor Kathleen Shwaluk (nee Riddle), on Friday, December 9, 2011 at the age of 66 years. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Ernie, her three sons Trevor (Maureen) and their daughters Kiera, Maddie, and Paige of Portage la Prairie; Trent (Maureen) and their son Max of Calgary; and Tyson of Winnipeg. She will also be remembered by brother Bob (Wilma) of Wawanesa, sister Gayle Francis of Saskatoon and numerous nieces and nephews. Eleanor was predeceased by her mother Gladys Annie Riddle (2010) and father Robert Jameson Riddle (1995). Eleanor was born on May 23, 1945 in Wheatland, Manitoba. She graduated from high school in Wawanesa. After attaining her teaching certificate from Brandon University, she taught grade 1 and 2 in Napinka, where she met her future husband, Ernie. Following their marriage in 1967, their teaching careers brought them to Portage la Prairie where they settled and raised their family. Eleanor will always be remembered for her generosity and selflessness. This same sense of giving carried over into her career and positively influenced the lives all those who entered her classroom. She balanced her teaching career with the responsibilities of raising three boys together with her loving and devoted husband. Family was everything to Eleanor. The time she spent with them was what she treasured most. She adored her grandchildren and after her retirement her life centered around their happiness. She touched the lives of many and she will be sadly missed by all those who had the good fortune of meeting her. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made in Eleanors memory to one of the following: North Memorial School Breakfast Program (cheques made out to North Memorial Trust Fund), Portage Community Foundation, or Trinity United Church. If anyone has a special photo of Eleanor that they would like to leave with the family, please bring it to the service. A memorial album will be available at the reception. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at Trinity United Church in Portage la Prairie. Friends and family are also welcome to attend the viewing on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Omega Funeral Home. A tribute DVD in memory of Eleanor will be produced by the Omega Funeral Home, condolences may be sent to the family c/o Omega Funeral Home, 83 Royal Road South, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, R1N 1T8, 1-800-303-4621 or friends may leave a message of sympathy on our web site www.omegafuneralhome.com Dedicated to those we serve.
