ARMSTRONG: Roy (Spud) Armstrong. On Friday, December 9th Roy (Spud) Armstrong passed away peacefully at Bayside Care Home in Killarney at the age of 97. Spud was born on August 12th, 1914 in Brandon, Manitoba to George and Georgina ( Isaac) Armstrong and was one of three children. Roy grew up in Brandon and as a young man enjoyed playing hockey and baseball. In 1936 he started working at the Brandon Mental Hospital and was employed there until he retired in 1979 after 43 years of service. Spud also served during the second world war as a medic in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. In 1940 he married Aileen Muirhead, and they had four children, Evan, Gay, Al, and Shayne. Spud and Aileen enjoyed travelling during their 63 years of marriage. They visited Hawaii and Victoria, B.C. more than a dozen times each. They also spent their summers at their cabin in Killarney. He was predeceased by his brother Archibald, his father George, his mother Georgina, his brother Victor and his wife Aileen. Spud leaves to mourn his passing Evan (Karen) of Henderson, Nevada, Gay (Bob) of Killarney, Manitoba, Al (Karen) of Calgary, Alberta, and Shayne ( Dorothy) of Brandon, Manitoba. He also leaves 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice.
