MAGUIRE: After a life well lived, and surrounded by her family, Sheila (Acorn) Maguire passed away peacefully at the Claresholm General Hospital on Tuesday, December 21, 2011 at the age of 78 years. She was born on, April 2, 1933 in Virden Manitoba, and was the third child of Jack and Mary Fitzpatrick. She attended Harmony School and was a graduate of St.Michaels Academy Brandon Manitoba. Out of school, she married Fredrick (Ted) Acorn and lived in southern Saskatchewan before moving to Claresholm in 1967. She worked at the Claresholm Care Center until they opened T&S Home Service, then later in the administration office of the Claresholm General Hospital. In 1980 she moved back to Brandon Manitoba to care for her ailing father. During that time she worked for Childrens Aid, she met and then married George Maguire of Elgin Manitoba. In her later years she returned to Alberta, first in High River, then settling in Claresholm to devote all of her energies to her growing family. Sheila was predeceased by her parents Jack and Mary; husbands Ted then George; brothers and sisters Gerald, Blanche, Theresa, Marion, Frank; and son Jackie Acorn. She is survived by her brother Eugene (Gene); children Colleen (Chris) Caron, and Phyllis Wright (Brian McKinnon). Stepchildren Cherilyn (Darryl); Myrna (Cliff); and by her two grandchildren Jason (Kelly) and Shauna and step grandchildren Grant; Mark and Gracy Caron; one great grandchild Logan; numerous nieces and nephews as well as grand nieces and nephews. Before being diagnosed with Macular Degeneration she had a passion for golf, sewing and quilting. While she was legally blind she continued to be an amazing cook and was revered as the familys iron chef. Her wit and sense of humor will always remain a treasure even into her final days. At Sheilas request, a private Family Service will be held. Sheila and her family would like to acknowledge the extraordinary care and compassion of Dr. Smith and the nursing staff at the Claresholm General Hospital.
