WELLS: Don Wells, hockey fan, baseball enthusiast, animal lover, spirited conversationalist, friend, co-worker and beloved cousin and nephew died suddenly on December 6, 2011 at his residence in Brandon Manitoba. He was 56 years of age. Don attended the University of Winnipeg in the mid-1970's graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Administrative studies (Economics) in 1976. Following graduation, he worked as an accounting student with Meyers Norris Penny & Company in Brandon until 1982, at which time he took on a new role as an office manager for Centra Gas, a position he held until 1994. It was during this time at Centra Gas that he received his Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation. Later that year, Don accepted an offer for the prestigious position of controller for the Brandon 1997 Canada Summer Games, an opportunity that allowed him to blend his accounting skills with his love of sports. With the completion of the Games, Don was employed by Leech Printing as controller, a position he held for 13 years until his passing. Hugely devoted to major league baseball, and a fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Don would travel to Minneapolis and Baltimore withfriends to watch the games and share his profound knowledge of baseballfacts and trivia. Not one to always watch from the sidelines, he participated in the company baseball team at Centra Gas and played defence for the Brandon Gallery Flames hockey team. Don was a quiet, gentle, unassuming guy whose love for a spirited debate with his coffee buddies at the local A&W, was surpassed only by his devotion to his pets and volunteer time (as treasurer) at the Brandon Humane Society. He took exceptionally good care of his dog and cats, well-known to be his pride and joy. Don Duncan Wells was born in Petawawa, Ontario, and moved to Brandon,Manitoba at age 12. The only son of the late Kae and Don Wells, he will be forever remembered by his cousins, Diane Lomas, Debbie Prevada of Brandon; Donna Knight, David Knight, Charles Knight, Gary Prevada, Brenda Prevada, Alexander Stanwyck of Toronto; Brian Cox, Debbie McInerny of Hamilton and loving aunt, Marie Knight (Toronto); along with countless other friends andfamily. Don was a genial, compassionate, selfless person. We were blessed to know him and he will be deeply missed by all. The Funeral Ceremony was held at Memories Chapel on Monday, December 12, 2011. Rev. Chris Arthur officiated. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Don to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 17th Street East, Brandon, MB R7A 5Y4.
