RENNICK: It is with deep sadness that the family of Zena Rennick announces her death following a stroke and brief hospital stay. Zena passed away on January 13, 2012 with her family at her side, to reunite with her beloved Glenn. Zena was born in Virden, Manitoba on February 2, 1919. Mom moved to Brandon to begin a career in the fashion industry. She met the love of her life and married on July 31, 1944. For many years Zena was at home raising a family. In 1966 Mom founded the very successful Economy Textiles fabric store which grew to three sites in Dauphin, Portage La Prairie and Brandon. Following the sale of her business, Mom carried on her strong business sense as a councillor for the Federal Business Development Bank. Zena was an active member of Kinettes and IODE for many years. She was an avid curler. Mom and Dad spent 17 wonderful winters in Palm Springs following their retirement. Summers were spent at the family cottage at Clear Lake. The door was always open and any and all were greeted with a warm welcome and invitation to stay and enjoy some of Mom's fabulous cooking and hospitality and of course the "Happy Hour" was a must. As a testament to Mom's strength and character, at age 90 she packed up and moved to Vancouver Island following Dad's death to be closer to family. Her heart and soul however, remained true to the prairies to which she is now returning. Zena leaves behind to mourn, her daughter Heather (Bob) Buchanan; Grandsons Chris (Andrea) and Andrew; Great-Grandchildren Kailey and Garrett. She is survived by two sisters Eileen Campbell and Ethel Shewchuk. Zena was predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Foster Carefoot and brothers Melvyn and Dempsey. A celebration of life will be held at the family cottage at Clear Lake in early August. Celebration time and date will be announced closer to the planned event. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Palliative Unit at the Brandon Regional Health Centre or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Mom's strength and character will be missed by all who knew and loved her. May peace and true happiness be yours again.
