WATT: Marjorie Pauline Watt, a very dear Mother and Grandmother. It is with deep sadness that Marj's family announces her passing on January 19, 2012 at the Fairview Home in her 85th year. Saying my last goodbye to you that morning mom, has left a heartache that will never heal (Linda). Marj is survived by: daughter Linda (Terry) Newhouse and granddaughters Tarren and Callie Newhouse; son Tim Watt and grandsons Jason and Daniel Watt, and also a sister Rose Hamilton. Marj was predeceased by her beloved husband Frank, on January 18, 1997. She was also predeceased by: her parents Paul and Nancy Santo, infant daughter, Janice, sister, Eleanor Mills and daughter- in-law Cecilia Watt. Marj was born on June 15, 1926 on the family farm outside Kipling, SK. Marj attended school in Bender, SK for her early years and high school in Kipling. She often talked of the seven mile trip with horse and sleigh in the cold winters to get to town for school every day. After high school, Marj attended a business college in Regina. She later worked in Regina for a while and then made a move to Winnipeg, to work with an insurance company. While Marj was working in Winnipeg, she met the love of her life, Frank on a greyhound bus she was taking home to Saskatchewan to visit family for the weekend. Frank got on the bus at Portage where he was working, on his way home to Birtle to also visit family. Conveniently, the only seat left on the bus was the one right beside Marj. They dated for some time and then were married on September 13, 1952. They lived in Portage for a short time and then moved to Brandon where Frank started work with the Brandon Fire Dept. and they made their permanent home. The next biggest event in Marj's life was the birth of her son, Tim. She gave birth to a daughter, Janice who then died in infancy, then gave birth to another daughter, Linda. Marj's job for many years to come was to be a full time mom. Her dedication to the well being of her children shone through when she would faithfully take her son, Tim two to three times a week to speech therapy because of Tim's hearing disability. She was determined to do what she could for Tim to hopefully bring some speech abilities out for him. She always put her children first. In years following for Marj was the excitement of seeing her son and daughter both marrying, then along came her four grandchildren; Jason and Daniel Watt, Tarren and Callie Newhouse. She adored her grandchildren who were so precious to her. Marj's passions were her knitting and crocheting especially when the grandchildren came along. The knitting needles were always clacking. She also loved animals big and small and had such a big heart for them. During all this, Marj and Frank were so proud to be members of the Royal Canadian Legion Brandon Branch #3, the Commonwealth Air Museum of Brandon and members of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. They did everything together through the years. Marj was also on the Ladies' Auxiliaries for the Legion, the Air Museum, the Church and the Brandon Fire Dept. She also did secretarial work for the Legion, Museum and the Church. Marj and Frank also loved their home away from home, their cottage at Otter Lake during summers. They enjoyed a lot of years there with family and good friends. Despite all this, Frank really was her world, but when he passed away on January 18, 1997, her world was shattered. With the help of her daughter and family watching over her, she tried to carry on for the next 15 years. Marj was able to stay in the family home of 54 years up until five years ago when she was forced to move to the Fairview Nursing Home because of physical disabilities. Marj was a woman of courage and strength and never dwelled on her own circumstances. She kept busy with her knitting and crocheting while in the nursing home but when her eyesight started to fail over the past year, she then was not able to do that anymore. Marj still tried to make the best of each day as she always said that "she loved life!" No matter how difficult things were becoming for her, she always prayed that tomorrow would be a better day! A sincere thank you to the 3rd Floor staff at the Fairview Home for their care and compassion in looking after our very special Mom and Grandma. The family would like to thank Vi Salyn, a very, very special friend of Marj's, who always spent time with Mom. Your love and friendship meant so much to Mom. She thought of you as her sister. The funeral service was held at Memories Chapel in Brandon on January 23, 2012 with Rev. Paul Sakasov officiating. Interment was in the Brandon Cemetery alongside her beloved husband, Frank. Urn Bearers were Linda Newhouse and Tim Watt. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Brandon Humane Society.Message to My Mom:I miss you so much already Mom but I can only imagine how happy you must bethat you are with Dad again.
