McKERLIE: With family by her side, Daisy Jean McKerlie (nee Piett) of Brandon, MB entered into rest Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Dinsdale Personal Care Home at the age of 86 years. Jean was born May 5, 1925, 5th daughter of nine children born to Stan and Daisy Piett of Springhill, MB. She attended Iroquois School. She worked various jobs including nanny & housekeeper while attending school; working in the Neepawa Bakery and Fred Burgess Solo Store until she left Neepawa in 1953, when she married Clint McKerlie. They made a life together raising three children in the City of Winnipeg, relocating to Surrey BC in 1977. After one year, a transfer found them moving to Brandon, MB in 1978. Jean found work with David Lawrence Mens Wear until its closing where she took a job at Walmart. Jean loved working with people. Later she joined her husband Clint as a postal courier, until Clint passed away in 1993. Jean was an active person who loved to garden, bowl, dance, fish, and golf. She enjoyed her cottage at Pelican Lake where many summer holidays were spent with visiting family. She was a wonderful cook and baker. Her passion was her family and being involved with her adult children, grandsons, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and friends. Jean was associated with the Brandon RCL, BFPBA, and Prairie Oasis. She was predeceased by husband Clint, sisters Clara Hawkins, Eva Martin, Dorothy Hutton, Thelma Burnett, Majorie McMurchie, and brothers Ronald and Donald Piett. Surviving are daughters Denise (Keith) Kennedy, Nola (Darren) Jones, son Brent McKerlie, grandsons Ryan, Travis and Blake Kennedy, Cam, Scott and Drew Jones. Also surviving is brother Fred (Diane) Piett, and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Neepawa United Church with Rev. M. Satterly officiating. Interment followed in Neepawa Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons Ryan, Travis, and Blake Kennedy, Cam, Scott, and Drew Jones. Whites Funeral Home was in care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dinsdale Personal Care Home or the Salvation Army in memory of Jean McKerlie. Thank you for being a wonderful mother, sister, aunt, friend and our strength. We will love you forever and you will always be in our hearts. We, the family of Jean McKerlie, would like to express our sincere gratitude to family and friends for the support provided to Mother over the past couple of years. It's during a time like this that we learn how much our family and friends really mean to us. We so appreciate your sympathy and love. A sincere thanks for the many beautiful cards, flowers, remembrances, and memorial donations received at our mothers passing. A special thank you to the Dinsdale PCH staff, Pastor Sharon McDonaugh, Dr. Moller, and We Care Health Services for all of their professional and compassionate care provided to our Mother.
