MEADOWS: Mervin Meadows. Dad passed away peacefully at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre on Monday, February 6, 2012, with his family at his side. Dad was born on the farm south of Griswold on June 18, 1926 to parents Winnifred (Young) and Walter Meadows. He soon became the apple of his five older sisters eyes. He grew up in Oak Lake and after school he went to work on the CPR. He worked there for the next forty years, retiring as Roadmaster in 1986. Dad met our Mom June while she was an MTS operator in Oak Lake. They married on October 11, 1952. Son Garry was born in November 1953 and daughter Judy in October 1954. The family lived in Oak Lake until moving to Brandon in 1965. They maintained their close friendships with their dear friends from the many years spent living in Oak Lake. Mom and Dad were able to travel Canada from coast to coast several times, and made trips to California, Florida, and Las Vegas. Mom passed away after a short illness, on November 16, 1983. Several years later, Dad met another life partner, Dorothy Doole. They enjoyed life together and spent many hours on the dance floor. They enjoyed travelling the world from Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, to many countries in Europe. One of Dads highlight holidays was when he took his entire family to California in 1996. He really enjoyed seeing Disneyland through his grandchildrens eyes. Due to failing health, Dad and Dorothy moved to Victoria Landing in December 2010. Dad took up playing pool again, something he hadnt done for many years. He was excited to win the gold medal in the senior games held there last June. Dad loved playing cards. Many evenings through the years were spent playing crib, rummy, and rummoli. Dad was so happy to have been able to see his eldest granddaughter Colette and her fiancé Mike be married this past July in Clear Lake. That was a very special day. Due to health reasons, Dad decided to move to Dauphin in October, to be near his family. He has resided at Lorray Manor for the past four months. He was always so happy to have his grandchildren visit him there. He loved to hear all of their news. Of course there was always the hockey discussion and debate with grandsons Chris and Brodie. Grampa loved watching hockey on TV, and spent many hours doing so. We were truly blessed to have spent so much time with Dad over these past few months. Dad was predeceased by his parents Winnifred and Walter; wife June; sisters Myrtle, Marjorie, Chris, Irene and Thelma; brothers-in-law George Torrance, Bill Allum, Harold Cairns, and Geordie Elliott. Dad is survived by his life partner Dorothy; son Garry and wife Diane, and their children Colette (Mike), Michelle and Glen; daughter Judy and husband Fred Todoruk, and their sons Chris and Brodie; as well as numerous extended family members. In accordance with Dads wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service and interment will be held at a later date. Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services 1-877-243-4459. www.sneathstrilchuk.com
