CHIPMAN: Mary Mae Cecelia Chipman (nee Gabriel) passed peacefully in the early morning hours of February 20, 2012 at the Venta Care Centre of Edmonton, Alberta. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth (Pat) Charles John and is survived by her son Kenneth RB of Edmonton and Donna Patricia Dhaliwal of Calgary Alberta. Mae was born on July 31, 1916 in New Aberdeen Nova Scotia and spent her late childhood and young adulthood in Glace Bay where she met her husband Pat. After he returned from the war they moved to Alberta, and then after spending some time in Ontario she settled with her family in Brandon in 1961. Trim, energetic, athletic; never standing still. For her close friends and co-workers she was outgoing, friendly, dependable, always in the give and take of commerce and friendship. She was active for decades raising money for charity in the form of The March of Dimes, and was busy in the community, volunteering her large front veranda to be the neighbourhood polling station during election times. Mae spent many happy years with her friends in Brandon. Shortly after arriving she began working at Knowlton Shoes; then the family moved to Germany for three years, and when they returned in the late 60s she worked in the shoe department in Eatons until she retired. In her retirement years she wintered in Arizona. She continued to live independently in her home, after her husband passed in 1996 and pursued golfing into her 90s until a fall forced her into the hospital. This incident caused her to move into an independent living seniors complex in Brandon. She moved to join her family in Edmonton in August of 2010, and her family will always be grateful for the time they had with her during the last years of her life. Simply Cremations & Funeral service, Edmonton, Alberta.
