KISLY: Michael Kisly passed away on Saturday, February 25 at the age of 90 in the Dauphin Personal Care Home. He will be sadly and lovingly remembered by his wife Maryann of 58 years, daughter Vera (Fred) Letain of Dauphin, MB, daughter Zora Bauer of Grande Prairie, AB, sister-in-law Hanna Braun (Brandon) and several nephews and nieces. Michael was predeceased by his parents, all four of his older sisters, brother-in-law Alvin Cherpaw and son-in-law John Bauer. Michael was born on October 24, 1921 in Zapole, Poland (Belarus). Enlisting in 1941 in the Polish Forces, he served under British Command with the Allied Forces. He began his tour of duty in the Middle East and continued onto Italy, where he saw action in many locations, most memorably on Monte Cassino, until the war ended. Life in Canada began in 1946 as he worked in a variety of locations throughout Manitoba and Alberta. He settled in Brandon, Manitoba beginning his employment of 38 years with the Brandon Experimental Farm (Agriculture Canada Research Station). In 1954 in Brandon, he married Maryann Cherpaw and raised his two cherished daughters. Retired in 1986, they moved to Dauphin in 1990. He loved the outdoors and kept busy gardening, fishing and hiking. During the winter months he continued with his walks, reading the newspapers and always followed sports closely, especially hockey and his favorite team the Brandon Wheat Kings. A private family graveside service was held at the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery, Friday, March 2, with Rev. Steve Wilson officiating. Michaels family would like to thank Dr. Mathison, Dr. Penrose, and the staff in the Dauphin Personal Care Home and Dauphin Regional Health Centre for their wonderful care over the past seven months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services 1-877-243-4459. www.sneathstrilchuk.com
