NYKOLIATION: Joseph Ross Nykoliation. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joe Nykoliation on March 16th, 2012, at the Valleyview Care Centre just a few days short of his 88th birthday. Joe was born in Seech, Manitoba on March 22, 1924. He attended high school in Strathclair and during that time he met Jennie Zdebiak. They were married on October 27, 1946 and spent several years farming in the McConnell area. In 1980 they retired in Shoal Lake where they lived for 26 years. They moved to Brandon in 2006 and in 2011 they moved to the Valleyview Care Centre where they were fortunate to share a suite together. Dad will always be remembered for his hard work and dedication to his farm. He worked many long hours but he loved what he did. He also enjoyed dancing, playing cards and pool, and he loved spending time fishing at their cottage at Thomas Lake. Dad was always known for telling stories about the good old days and he especially enjoyed making people laugh. Dad will be remembered and missed by his loving wife Jennie of 65 years, his daughter Debbie and son-in-law Doug Smiley, his brother-in-law and wife Tony and Marion Zdebiak, as well as several nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Nicholas, his brothers John (Sophie), Bill (Rose), Alex (Tennie) and Steve, as well as his sister Mary Zurbyk (Nick). He was also predeceased by several in-laws as well as other extended family members. The family wish to thank all the wonderful staff at the Valleyview Care Centre who took such great care of dad during his final weeks. Their kindness and compassion is greatly appreciated. Thanks also to Dr. Caplan and the staff at the Brandon Regional Health Centre for their care as well. Special thanks to Home Care and Camelot Gardens for their excellent care and support prior to dad moving to Valleyview. Funeral service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Fr. Michael Tkachuk will officiate. Interment will take place at a later date at Shoal Lake Cemetery. If friends or family wish, donations in memory of Joe may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Expressions of sympathy may be made atwww.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
