VANDERSCHAEGHE: On Saturday, March 17, 2012 (Marie) Antoinette, nee Gilliard, slipped away in her sleep at RUH in Saskatoon, SK. She was predeceased by her husband Henry of 60 years, daughter Marie, sons Roger and Lawrence Vanderschaeghe. She is survived by her son Maurice (Johnell) Vanderschaeghe, daughters Emily (Gary) Poppel and Irene (Doug) Brown and daughter-in-law Evelyn Vanderschaeghe; 10 Grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren; her brother Gaston (Lorette) Gilliard, sister -in-law Bertha Kernel and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her parents Emil and Hortense (Montes) Gilliard; siblings, Irene Bandet, Rose Lepage, Ulyse Gilliard, Germaine Lepage, Emilie Florizone, Emile Gilliard, John Gilliard and Anna Gilliard, numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Antoinette was born on June 22nd, 1922 in Howell, SK now known as Prud'homme. She married Henry on her 22nd birthday on June 22nd, 1944. They began their life together in Routledge, MB, followed by a move to Oake Lake, MB; where they worked hard side by side on their farm. During this time, Antoinette enjoyed being a member of the Catholic Women's League and the South Country Ladies Group in Oak Lake. She also drove school bus for the Fort la Bosse School Division for 18 years. Once retired from farming, Antoinette and Henry enjoyed travelling with friends and family to Hawaii, Mexico, Spain, Texas, Belgium and France. Eventually they moved to Brandon, MB and decided to become "Snowbirds" and made their way down to Apache Junction, Arizona each winter where they made friends whom she continued contact with. Antoinette had many hobbies - knitting, crocheting, socializing, playing cards with friends, square dancing with Henry and as time went on she loved to play solitaire on her computer, doing puzzles and bingo - always bingo! Prayers to be held at Samaritan Place, 375 Cornish Rd., Saskatoon, Sk. on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 7 pm. Funeral service to be held on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Parish, 481 Queen St. W., Virden, MB. A private family interment will take place at Virden Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society or the ALS Society.
